Bounded by Moore, Richmond, Stanly, Davidson and Randolph counties, we are 50 minutes from Greensboro and 70 minutes from Charlotte. The area has very warm summers, mild winters, and spring and fall are usually perfect. The county seat is Troy - the other four townships are Biscoe, Candor, Mt. Gilead and Star.

Candor is home to the North Carolina Peach Festival, held on the third Saturday of each July. The Star Fiddler's Convention is the state's oldest and is held in late winter. Troy is well known as the home of Capel, Inc., American's largest manufacturer and importer of area rugs.

Town Creek Indians settled here about 1500 ad in an area close to Mt. Gilead. The tribe is estimated to have numbered around 2,000 in population at one time. The Town Creek Indian Mound, a historic site dedicated to Native American Indian heritage, stands where one of the villages once existed. There is a visitor center with interpretive exhibits, audiovisual programs and maps to take a self-guided tour of the site.

To the west is our greatest natural asset, the 40,000 acres that that make up most of the Uwharrie National Forest, named for the Uwharrie Mountains. The mountains are some of the oldest in North America. The national forest is bounded on the west by the Pee Dee River and by lakes Badin and Tillery. The rivers and the forest provide incredible recreational activities for the area, including camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, water skiing, boating and golf.
